I loved some of the recipes and some of them, I just didn't get like beans for breakfast but I could see that happening in other countries. I really loved how each recipe had a conversion for Fahrenheit, Celsius and Gas Mark, which is something you never see in other cookbooks and it could come in handy if needed! The way the recipes were laid out was perfect and to have good healthy recipes made this book an excellent cookbook to have around for those busy nights!

Genre : YA Fiction / Family Issues
Rating : 4 Star

Soldier Sister, Fly Home is the story of one girl's journey to find herself in this world we live in. Tess is a fourteen year old half Navajo / half white girl, who is struggling being in a school off the reservation and a sister who just got deployed overseas. All of this happens just weeks after Lori Piestewa, the first Native American in history to die in combat.

When Gaby comes home to tell her family that she is leaving, Tess is hurt that Gaby would leave but Gaby puts Tess in charge of her semi-wild stallion, Blue, to keep her mind on something else while she is gone but Tess is reluctant to do so since her and Blue don't get along. When Tess's Grandmother takes her sheep down to the canyon which she does each Summer, Tess goes with her and takes Blue but she doesn't trust him enough to ride him until one day that she will have to put all of her trust into Blue to get them to safety. After that day, Blue and Tess are the best of friends until a fateful tragic day that will make Tess be the person that she is meant to be and finds that everything will be alright in the end, if you just put your trust in it.

I really enjoyed this book and it had me stop reading all the other books I was reading just to read this one! I also loved the fact that Nancy included having Lori Piestewa in this book just to honor her for what she did in the war and it just fit in well for what the story was. While I was reading this book, you get the sense of what Tess is going through and you could just imagine what is happening with Blue as it happens, it's just one of those books where you want to be in it!!

Thank You to Nancy Bo Flood for writing a book that had me captivated from the first page until the very last word!!

The Lucidity Project by Abbey Campbell Cook

Published Date : May 31, 2016
Publisher : She Writes Press
Genre : Fiction / Fantasy
Rating : 3 Star

The Lucidity Project is the story of one woman's journey to find her true self. Max Dorigan has depression and after a failed suicide attempt, she agrees to joining The Lucidity Project. The project which is in the Caribbean, where Max soon's finds out that there are others like her but in a different way. As Max comes to learn who she really is with a major twist to the story, she is finally able to let go and be who she is meant to be.

I'm torn about this book, I really want to like it but some of the stuff is way too far fetched for myself to get into the story-line. I do have to admit that the writing was pretty good and if it wasn't for the weird stuff going on, I would have rated this book way higher than what I did. I see this book being more of a adult kind of book instead of YA due to what is going on within the pages. Overall it was a kinda weird read for me but I can see how people would enjoy it if you are more into that whole fantasy / sci-fi world!

Thank You to Abbey Campbell Cook for introducing me to your writing style that I can't wait to see what is to come from you!

Texas in Her Own Words is a peek into the Texas psyche. It explains why Texans are the way they are . . . where all that attitude comes from. This work is the result of a statewide search for what author Tweed Scott calls the “T-Chromosome.” Texans are different but why?  Scott went statewide to find the answers to three basic questions. 1) What makes Texas special? 2) Why is this place so different than anywhere else on the planet? 3) If and when it applied, what does it mean to you personally to BE a native Texan?

Scott shares some remarkable answers with you throughout the book. In the end, he learned that all Texans share four traits or attributes. When you finish this book, you will understand why Texans are the way they are. IF you are a native Texan, chances are you will find some of yourself between the covers of this book. It’s a fun read.

Praise for Texas in Her Own Words

"Searching for the soul of Texas, Tweed Scott has done a great service.  People and places and the cowboy poetry of the heart -- Texas in Her Own Words is chockfull of all of these things.  It deserves a special place on your bookshelf. Say right between Larry McMurtry and J. Frank Dobie." -- Kinky Friedman, author and entertainer

"It's a Texas thing, you either have it, or you don't.  Few people can define such an emotion, a feeling, a pride that is embedded so deep.  This book made me cry and smile at the same time.  Texas in Her Own Words helps to explain what 'Lone Star state of mind' is. . ." -- TJ Greaney, Publisher, Countryline Magazine.

"I [Patricia Spork] very highly recommend Texas in Her Own Words (Second Edition) by Tweed Scott to Texas researchers and historians, to any hopeful "wannabe" Texan or to any yee hawin' boastful Texan, like me (a transplanted didn't-know-it "wannabe")."

Texas In Her Own Words is a collection of stories from a variety of people who tell what it means to be a Texan! This book is filled with Texan's views of why they love Texas and what being a Texan means to each of them. The book includes little known facts about the state within the stories as well. Yes, this book may get a little repetitive from everyone saying nearly the same thing time and time again, but the bottom line is that we Texans are proud of where we came from and the fight to get us to here was well worth it!
Being a proud Texas-born child and growing up in this great state, I can tell you that when you have to leave Texas at 12 years old, you start to appreciate what it means to live in a state that has so much pride that other states just don't have. Like I said before, this book does seem to have a repeating theme factor, but I get it. In my mind there isn't a book big enough to contain why we all love Texas.

I spent 14 long years away from Texas and to be able to read a book like this, while living in another state, would have been like heaven to me just to get that feeling that I can't describe that I had while reading Texas in Her Own Words. It would have been a well-read book until I was finally able to cross back across that Texas border for good!

Thank You to Tweed Scott for writing Texas in Her Own Words. Even though you are not a full-blooded Texan, you definitely showed everyone what it's like to be a Texan!
